Day 22, year 2 - Thank you, Professor Tolkien.

Today is, of course, the birthday of J.R.R. Tolkien and however you choose to mark the occasion I’d heartily encourage you to be grateful and to think - to take a few moments to think of all the parts of your life that would be different had it not been because of the writing of this one man.

Think of….

The friends you’ve made because of Tolkien.

The people who you’ve come to love and value.

The places you’ve travelled to.

The things you’ve done, the things you’ve tried, the things you’ve seen.

The movies and books - not just those directly linked to Tolkien, but all those who were inspired by Tolkien - that you’ve thrilled to and enjoyed.

The games you’ve played.

The art that has been created.

The music that has been written.

The ways you’ve been inspired.

Think….and remember that none of this would have happened had it not been for the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien. Think, be grateful and wish him a very happy birthday indeed.

Thank you, Professor Tolkien.
